About Blue Horizon Detailing

Warwickshire's premium mobile vehicle appearance specialist. One person, a deliberately small diary, and a straightforward belief — that most of what ruins a vehicle's finish is preventable, and that owners deserve to be told so.

Meet the Founder

Josh May

Blue Horizon Detailing is Josh May. Not a brand with a team behind it — one person, based in Rugby, who has spent years learning how vehicle finishes actually behave and what it takes to keep them right.

It started the way most of these things do: with his own car, a machine polisher, and the realisation that the swirls he had spent years assuming were unavoidable were nothing of the sort. They had been put there by the way the car was being washed. That is a slightly uncomfortable thing to learn — and it is the single idea the entire business is built on. Most of what ruins paintwork is preventable. Almost nobody is told that.

Blue Horizon exists to be the alternative to the two options most owners are left with: a cheap wash that quietly damages the car, or a unit somewhere that wants your vehicle for three days. Everything is mobile. We arrive with our own water and equipment, the vehicle stays exactly where it lives, and the person who quoted the job is the person who does it.

Josh works on a small number of vehicles at a time, on purpose. Correction and coating work does not respond well to being hurried, and a diary packed too tightly is how corners start getting cut. Fewer vehicles, each given the hours it genuinely needs, is a deliberate trade — it limits how much work can be taken on, and it is the reason the results hold up.

The standard does not move with the badge on the bonnet. A Rolls-Royce, a Bentley, an Aston Martin, a G-Class, a much-loved classic and a ten-year-old family hatchback all get assessed the same way, prepared the same way, and finished to the same level. The scope of the work changes. The care does not.

Every vehicle is treated the way Josh treats his own — which mostly means being honest. If paint does not need correcting, we say so. If a coating would be going on over defects that ought to be removed first, we say that too, even when it makes the quote smaller. Nobody has ever regretted being told the truth about their car.

Based in Rugby, covering Warwickshire and the surrounding counties — Leamington Spa, Warwick, Kenilworth, Coventry, Stratford-upon-Avon, Southam, Solihull, Balsall Common and well beyond.

Years in Vehicle Care

I'd rather do four cars properly in a week than twelve badly. Every vehicle I take on gets the time it actually needs — and I treat all of them the way I'd want someone to treat mine.

Our Approach

We Look After Vehicles.
Cleaning Them Is Part of It.

There is a meaningful difference between a vehicle that has been cleaned and a vehicle that has been looked after. The first lasts a fortnight. The second holds its finish, its interior and its value for as long as you own it — and that is the standard we work to, whether the vehicle is a twenty-year-old classic or a car delivered last week.

Preservation, not just presentation

A clean car is the by-product, not the point. The work that matters is what happens to the paint over the years you own the vehicle — how it is washed, what protects it, and what is allowed to sit on it in between.

Most damage is done by washing

The swirls and fine scratches visible under low sun are almost never from the road. They come from brushes, dirty mitts, gritty sponges and drive-through washes. Correct method removes the single largest cause of paint deterioration.

Products are chosen, not stocked

We use professional-grade products because they behave predictably on delicate finishes — soft paint, matte and satin wraps, older lacquer, unprotected trim. Cost is not the qualifier; how a product performs on a vehicle we cannot replace is.

Every vehicle gets the time it needs

Work is quoted by what the vehicle actually requires, not by a slot in a diary. That means fewer vehicles in a week, and no job hurried to reach the next one.

Why Choose Us

The Blue Horizon Difference

Owners who care about their vehicles tend to ask the same questions before they book. These are the honest answers.

Products Chosen, Not Stocked

Everything in the van is there because of how it behaves on a finish we cannot replace — soft paint, matte and satin wraps, older lacquer, unprotected trim. Price is not the qualifier. Predictability is.

Your Vehicle Never Leaves

No drop-off, no courtesy car, no days spent in a unit somewhere. We work at your home or workplace — which means your vehicle is never driven by anyone else and never sits on another premises.

The Standard Does Not Move

A Bentley, a classic and a ten-year-old hatchback are assessed the same way and finished to the same level. The scope of the work changes with the vehicle. The care behind it does not.

Told Honestly, Priced Honestly

We assess your vehicle and quote it before anything starts. If the paint does not need correcting, we will tell you — even when saying so makes the quote smaller. There are no hidden charges and nothing is added on the day.

Quality Over Quantity

Correction and coating work is booked in small numbers because it cannot be hurried. Availability is genuinely finite — but every vehicle on the calendar gets the full time it deserves.

We Stand Behind the Work

SMART repairs carry a lifetime ownership guarantee on our workmanship — for as long as you own the vehicle. Every ceramic coating we apply comes with a full warranty and aftercare package.

Our Process

The Blue Horizon Standard

Every service follows the same sequence, whether it is a maintenance visit or a multi-stage correction and ceramic coating. The scope changes with the vehicle. The sequence does not.

01

Thorough Assessment

Before we touch a vehicle, we assess its condition carefully — paint, interior, any damage — and ensure the work we recommend is matched to what the vehicle actually needs.

02

Correct Preparation

Decontamination, clay bar and a properly safe wash before any polishing, protection or repair begins. Preparation is unglamorous and it is where most of the difference is made — everything applied afterwards only performs as well as the surface beneath it.

03

Considered Application

Professional-grade products applied with the technique each task actually calls for. On a machine polish, a ceramic coating or a SMART repair, method matters at least as much as the product — and on delicate finishes it matters more.

04

Inspection & Aftercare

Every panel is checked under proper light before the job is called finished — and you are shown how to keep the result, because how a vehicle is washed from here decides how long the work lasts.

This process applies whether we are carrying out a Maintenance Valet or a full multi-stage paint correction and ceramic coating. The standard does not change based on the service level — only the scope does.

Vehicles We Are Trusted With

Prestige, Performance, Classic & Everyday

Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Aston Martin, AMG, Porsche, Lamborghini and Range Rover are regular work — but so are family cars, vans and much-loved older vehicles. The scope of the job changes with the car. The standard behind it does not.

What We Wish Every Owner Knew

None of this is secret, and none of it is complicated. It is simply rarely explained — so here it is, whether you book with us or not.

Why poor washing does more damage than the road does

Almost all the fine scratching and swirl marks you see on a dark car under low sun were put there during washing, not by driving. Rotating brushes at drive-through washes, a sponge that has been dropped, one mitt used from the wheels upwards, or drying with a towel over a surface that is not properly clean — each drags grit across the lacquer. It is cumulative and it is why a three-year-old car can look duller than a ten-year-old one that has been washed properly. Correct method (pre-rinse, contact-free foam, clean mitt, two buckets, safe drying) removes the largest single cause of paint deterioration in normal ownership.

Why paint correction matters

Paint correction is the removal of a microscopically thin layer of lacquer to bring the surface back to level, which eliminates the swirls and light scratches that scatter light and make paint look flat. It is the only process that genuinely removes defects — polishes and glazes that "fill" them are temporary and wash out. It matters because clear coat is finite: correcting properly once, then maintaining the finish, uses far less of it than repeatedly polishing to hide damage that keeps returning. It is also the step that makes protection worth applying, since a coating locks in whatever condition the paint is in underneath it.

Why ceramic coatings matter

A ceramic coating forms a hard, chemically resistant, water-repellent layer bonded to the lacquer. The visible benefit is gloss and the way water sheets off. The real benefit is that contamination — brake dust, tree sap, road film, bird droppings — sits on the coating rather than etching into the paint, and releases with far less physical contact when you wash. Less contact means fewer swirls, which means the finish you paid to correct stays corrected. Every coating we apply comes with a full warranty and aftercare package.

Why maintaining a ceramic coating matters

A coating is a surface, and surfaces get dirty. Road film, traffic grime and hard-water deposits gradually sit on top of the coating and mask it — the water stops beading, and owners understandably assume the coating has failed when it is usually still there underneath. Correct maintenance washing with pH-neutral products, and a periodic decontamination to strip what has bonded on top, restores the behaviour. Harsh degreasers and traffic-film removers do the opposite: they shorten a coating's working life considerably. This is the single most common reason a coating underperforms.

Why routine maintenance preserves value

Condition is one of the few things about a vehicle an owner can still control. Mileage and age are fixed; paint, interior, glass and trim are not. Deterioration is nearly always gradual and nearly always avoidable — leather that was never conditioned cracks, trim that was never protected fades, wheels left with baked-on brake dust corrode, and neglected paint reaches a point where correction is the only route back. Regular, correct maintenance costs a fraction of putting those things right later, and a vehicle that has visibly been cared for consistently is a materially easier vehicle to sell.
